Knife maker

Knife creationCutlery, carbon steel - Yann Magnin

I design and manufacture knives for the pleasure of cutting, hammering, filing, sanding and heating metal. This activity is a link between my theoretical research on carbon and a craft application where physical parameters and quantities suddenly become concrete.

I mainly use hypereutectoid Fe-C steels which give the blades a higher hardness than stainless steels ~ 62 HRC. All wrought steels have a carbon content of around wt%~1. Carbon steel knives require regular maintenance to prevent them from rusting.
